Farmer’s Markets (happy face)
Finally, the farmer’s markets have opened! Hip Hip Hooray!
In our small community, Freeport, IL, there are 2 (that I know of) on Saturday mornings. One is downtown on Exchange Street, south of the municipal parking area, and the other is in the parking lot on the south side of town, near CVS pharmacy and Higher Grounds Coffee Shop. Both have fresh produce, homemade baked good, homemade crafts, and so much more.
The first one I mentioned, downtown, is a bit larger (more vendors) than the latter. Farmers display their goods on tables and the back of trucks to help you see what they offer. My daughter and I bought fresh produce, kombucha, desserts, and sweet bread from there last weekend. Yummy.
The second one, on the south side, has a few farmers who sell vegetables, canned good, and crafts. I have only driven by there, so can’t say exactly what is there, but both places are a must for Saturday morning shopping.
Go to the local farmer’s markets where real food is grown and harvested just for you and your family. You might pay a teeny weeny bit more, but the long term benefits, such as supporting the local economy and taking care of your digestive system, are worth every penny.
